How to copy data from one employer to another in Celery
Celery does not have a "copy employer" button. But you can export data from one employer and import it into another. Here's how.
Before you start: You need account user permissions to do this.
Step 1 — Export your data first
Export the employer data you want to copy. Follow this guide to create your export file.
Important: If you use custom wage codes (pay types you created yourself), make sure those same codes also exist at the new employer. If they don't, those codes will not be copied over.
You do not need to create the new employer first. Celery will do that for you during the import.
Part A — Import the employer
Use this to copy the employer's full setup, including pay codes and accounting settings.
- Click Account (next to your name at the top)
- Go to the Import & Export tab
- Choose Import employers, then Celery import
- In Step 1 — pick the export file you just created
- In Step 2 — Celery checks your file automatically
- In Step 3 — pick the employer you want to import, then click Import
Done! A copy of the employer is created. You can now update the employer details to match the new company.
Part B — Import employees
Use this to copy one, some, or all employees into the new employer.
- Click Account (next to your name at the top)
- Go to the Import & Export tab
- Choose Import employees, then Celery import
- In Step 1 — pick the export file you just created
- In Step 2 — Celery checks your file automatically
- In Step 3 — pick the employee(s) you want to import, then click Import

Done! The selected employees are now imported.
Reminder: After importing, check that all wage codes came through correctly. Any wage codes that don't exist at the new employer will be skipped.
