What’s the difference between a periodic run and an extra run?
Celery has two types of pay runs. Each one has its own purpose.
Regular run
A periodic run is the regular pay run. You use it to pay the salary and all other changing amounts, like overtime or allowances.
Did you add a new employee after the periodic run was already processed? No problem. Celery automatically creates an extra periodic run for that employee. This way, you can still pay them for that period. After processing, Celery combines the documents for you. You never have to add up periods yourself.

Additional run
An extra run is only for special payments. Use it for:
- A final payment when an employee leaves. This is for when the employee has already had their last periodic run.
- One-time payments paid separately. For example, holiday pay, a bonus or a 13th month.
- A payment covered by a tax ruling. This is an amount the tax authorities have given a specific decision on for this employee.
