Does Celery use the Gliding Scale for pensioners?

  • Modified on: Fri, 23 Oct, 2026 at 12:42 PM

Celery uses it automatically in pension payrolls for Aruba, Curaçao and Sint Maarten.

What is the Gliding Scale?

Pensioners with a lower yearly income pay only part of their social premiums. The lower the income, the smaller the part they pay. When income goes up, the part they pay goes up too, step by step, until they pay the full premium.

It applies to these premiums:

  • AOV (state old-age pension)
  • AWW (pension for widows, widowers and orphans)
  • AZV (Aruba’s general health insurance; this one applies to Aruba only)

Can I turn it off?

Yes. You can switch it off or on for many employees at once:

  1. Go to Employees.
  2. Select one, some or all employees.
  3. A bulk-edit option appears above the employee list.
  4. Use it to switch the Gliding Scale off or on.

Aruba (AOV, AWW and AZV)

Pensioners aged 65 and older also pay no AZV on the first Afl. 30,000 of their income.

Sint Maarten (AOV and AWW only)

This one is a bit tricky. The government has not published an official table for 2026. You may see a table online that runs from 7,066.61 to 57,363.35. That table is old, from 2012. Don’t use it for 2026.

Celery made its own 2026 table, based on the official 2026 limits from SZV (the Social and Health Insurances office). The table below shows where each step starts.
